Corruption allegations against 8 advisers baseless: Cabinet Secretary

The interim government has rejected as “baseless” allegations made by a retired civil service officer claiming to possess evidence of corruption against eight government advisers.

Authorities described the claims—made without presenting proof or identifying individuals—as “irresponsible” and damaging to public trust, urging that any credible evidence be submitted to the proper legal and investigative bodies.

In a statement issued on Saturday evening, signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid, the government’s position was made clear.

“Recent media reports have come to the attention of the interim government, in which former government officer A.B.M. Abdus Sattar made unsubstantiated allegations against several advisers without naming them. We firmly reject these allegations. Making sweeping accusations without presenting evidence or identifying individuals is irresponsible and harmful to public confidence,” the statement read.

On Friday, at a public event, Abdus Sattar—currently serving as Secretary to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, General Secretary of Officers’ Club, and President of the Anti-Discrimination Employees Unity Forum—claimed to have “irrefutable evidence” of corruption involving eight advisers to the interim government.

Sattar, a retired administration cadre officer from the BCS ’82 batch, alleged: “I am deeply disappointed. Even if the bureaucrats’ integrity has eroded, at least the eight advisers—who assumed office on the blood of the July movement—have engaged in massive corruption. I can provide evidence of this. Intelligence agencies have the proof, but no action is being taken.”

He further claimed that no major appointments or transfers could take place without the consent of these advisers, though he refrained from naming them.

Rejecting his statements, the Cabinet Secretary’s release added: “Our administration is committed to transparency, integrity, and accountability. If Mr. Abdus Sattar possesses credible evidence of misconduct, we urge him to promptly submit it to the appropriate legal and investigative authorities. Until such evidence is presented, we remind all stakeholders that public discourse should be based on facts, not speculation.”
