A sub-inspector of the Detective Branch of police was arrested in Khulna on Wednesday on charges of raping a woman at a hotel.
The arrestee is identified as Jahangir Alam.
Hasan Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Khulna Sadar police station, said the victim came from Mongla upazila of Bagerhat to see a doctor for her daughter.
“She along with her daughter was staying in room-13 of Sundarbans Hotel in the city at night. Later at 2:30 am, Jahangir entered the room and raped the woman.”
The OC also said upon hearing the victim’s cry for help, people in the hotel rushed in and detained the accused. “They later handed him over to police.”
Jahangir was sent to jail through a court on Wednesday morning in a case filed by the victim.
The victim has been sent to One Stop Crisis Centre of Khulna Medical College Hospital, Hasan added.
