A dramatic raid in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, ended with the deaths of two individuals and the arrest of five others during a joint forces operation on Wednesday night.
The police claim the incident involved an exchange of gunfire between law enforcement and criminals.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Tejgaon Division Police, Ibn Mizan, the joint forces carried out the operation in the Chand Udyan area of Mohammadpur, acting on intelligence that a group was preparing to commit a robbery.
The situation escalated when the criminals opened fire from the rooftop of a one-story building, forcing the joint forces to retaliate.
Police reports state that the operation commenced around 12:30 a.m., after they received information about the planned robbery.
The joint forces team, arriving at the scene, quickly took control of both sides of a narrow alley where the group was hiding.
But things took a violent turn when the criminals suddenly fired at the officers from the rooftop.
In self-defense, the law enforcement team fired back, leading to the eventual arrest of five suspects and the discovery of two bodies on the rooftop.
One of the two deceased has been identified as Jumman, 25, whom the police have labeled a criminal.
During the raid, the team confiscated a pistol, four rounds of ammunition, and a machete from those arrested.
