The US Embassy in Dhaka has shared the documentary on its Facebook page about the allegations of human rights violations against the Rapid Action Battalion created by Deutsche Welle. Furthermore, the US Embassy's Facebook page shared the Deputy Chief Spokesperson of the US State Department, Vedant Patel's response to a journalist's query regarding the documentary and the human rights situation in Bangladesh at the US State Department's regular briefing last Thursday.
In that US State Department briefing, a Bangladeshi journalist raised the issue of Deutsche Welle's documentary and asked whether the US State Department is considering further sanctions on RAB or imposing sanctions on the Ministry of Interior.
In response to this question, Vedant Patel said, "I am not going to predict any system from here. However, we will scrutinize the allegations made in that article and video very carefully. And we hope the Bangladesh government will do the same."
The Deputy Chief Spokesperson of the US State Department also said, "To be precise, human rights violators must be held accountable."
Before the meeting which will take place on Monday in Washington with the Ministry of External Affairs, Dr. AK Abdul Momen, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken made that statement. Also, Bangladesh would restate its demand that the US withdraw its sanctions against RAB at the upcoming meeting.
Foreign Minister, Dr. Momen told the media, "This is nothing but ridiculous! RAB is not being used for political purposes. RAB is being used for security purposes.”
n the weekly briefing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs last Thursday (April, 6) about the report of Deutsche Welle and Netra news about RAB, Seheli Sabrin, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director General of Public Diplomacy Division, said, "RAB works in the interest of the country's security. RAB is not being used for any political purpose. We are sure about this."
