Former members of the armed forces who were dismissed or compelled to retire during the previous regime held a demonstration in front of the Jatiya Press Club today, demanding reinstatement and the provision of pending benefits.
According to witnesses, the protesters — accompanied by some of their family members — began assembling at the location around 11:00 AM.
They had intended to march towards Jahangir Gate, but police intervened and stopped them.
The demonstrators claimed they were unjustly removed from service and denied their rightful dues under the previous government.
In response to the gathering, additional police and army personnel were deployed in the area to maintain order.
Sub-Inspector Taukir Ahmed of Shahbagh Police Station confirmed that the protest was ongoing in front of the press club.
Earlier, on May 14, the Bangladesh Army reiterated its commitment to reviewing appeals from former personnel regarding disciplinary actions.
In a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army urged patience, discipline, and the avoidance of any inappropriate actions.
The ISPR emphasized that the army`s proud tradition is built on professionalism, dedication, and strict discipline.
