In a move aimed at ensuring the safety of tourists, the district administration has temporarily advised against visiting the popular tourist spot, Sajek, following a devastating fire that broke out on February 24.
The fire, which ravaged the area, destroyed more than 120 resorts, cottages, and local homes. In response, authorities took immediate action to evacuate tourists from the region, prioritizing their safety.
Shirin Akhter, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Baghaichhari, explained, “We have made this decision to guarantee the safety of tourists after a massive fire tore through the area, causing substantial damage to resorts, cottages, and local residences.”
The fire was eventually brought under control, thanks to the joint efforts of two fire service units, local army personnel, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members, and the help of local residents.
For now, the authorities have emphasized that tourists should refrain from visiting Sajek as a precautionary measure until the situation stabilizes.
