Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus has been sued in a case over labour law violation.
The Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishment has filed a criminal case against the Grameen Telecom Chairman and three others for allegedly violating labour laws.
SM Arifuzzaman, labour inspector of the department, filed the case with the Dhaka's Labour Court on Sunday (September 12).
The court has issued summons to the four to appear before it by October 12
The other accused are Grameen Telecom Managing Director Md Ashraful Hasan, board directors Nur Jahan Begum and Md Shahjahan.
The Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishment noticed several violations of labour law during a recent inspection at Grameen Telecom, according to case statement.
The violations include failing to permanent the jobs of 101 workers and employees, not forming workers' participation fund as well as welfare fund, and failing to provide 5% of the company’s dividend to workers.
