Dr. Yunus calls on Asian leaders to come forward for Rohingya repatriation

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, has called on Asian leaders to come forward for the repatriation of the Rohingya. 

He said that the Rohingya are having a negative impact on the country‍‍`s social and economic situation.

He made these remarks in a speech at the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) conference on Thursday.

Dr. Yunus said, "Geo-political tensions are increasing. The Rohingya are having a negative impact on the social and economic situation." 

In his speech, the chief advisor called on Asian leaders to come forward for the repatriation of the Rohingya.

The chief advisor said, "The world has seen that the people of Bangladesh have united against corruption. Reform activities have begun to restore people‍‍`s confidence in the challenge of building a new Bangladesh."

Dr. Yunus also commented that what is happening in Gaza is not just a matter of the Muslim or Arab world, but also a matter of humanity.

Meanwhile, the chief advisor will be met by the country‍‍`s Food and Agriculture Organization Director-General Qu Dongyu at 2 pm local time.

In addition, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Russia‍‍`s Deputy Prime Minister will also meet with the chief advisor.

Earlier, Professor Yunus arrived in China on Wednesday for a four-day official visit. 

A special Southern Airlines flight carrying the chief advisor and his entourage arrived at Hainan‍‍`s Qinghai Boao International Airport at 4:15 pm Bangladesh time on Wednesday.

Bangladesh Ambassador to China Md. Nazmul Islam and the Vice Governor of Hainan Province welcomed the Chief Advisor at the airport.

The first bilateral meeting between Professor Yunus and Chinese President Xi Jinping will be held in Beijing on March 28, where issues of bilateral interest will be discussed. 

On March 29, Professor Yunus will deliver a lecture at Peking University (PKU), and the university will confer an honorary doctorate degree on the Bangladeshi chief advisor.

During the visit, the Chief Advisor will hold discussions with Chinese hospital chains to encourage them to explore business opportunities and establish hospitals in Bangladesh through joint ventures.

The chief advisor is scheduled to return to the country on March 29.
