The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) is set to consider 13 development projects at a meeting on Tuesday, with proposals covering infrastructure, water management, healthcare, education and industrial growth.

Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Tarique Rahman will preside over the meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat, where both new and revised projects are expected to be reviewed.

Several major water resource projects are on the agenda, including a plan to rehabilitate and maintain irrigation facilities in Barishal and another initiative aimed at reducing waterlogging and expanding irrigation coverage in the greater Jashore region.

The committee is also expected to examine a proposal to establish Integrated Upazila Land Complexes across the country to improve land-related public services.

In the transport sector, ECNEC will review a project to upgrade a section of the Anwara–Banshkhali–Toitong–Pekua–Badarkhali–Chakaria regional highway in Chattogram, aimed at improving connectivity and road standards.

Urban development projects include the construction of a new city corporation headquarters in Mymensingh.

Several revised projects are also expected to come under review, including the expansion and improvement of Khulna Shipyard Road and a project involving the installation of lifts at circuit houses and deputy commissioners’ offices in multiple districts.

In the health sector, the committee will consider a proposal to expand the Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute to strengthen child healthcare services. A revised cancer centre project at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) is also on the agenda.

Education-related discussions will include revisions to the Madrasah Education Management and Information System (MEMIS) project and an extension of the programme for establishing multimedia classrooms in hundreds of madrasahs nationwide.

A new infrastructure project designed to support the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone is also expected to be reviewed as part of efforts to encourage industrial investment and economic activity.

ECNEC will additionally consider revisions to a power transmission project aimed at increasing the capacity of existing grid substations and transmission lines.

During the meeting, members will also be informed about six development projects that have already received approval from the relevant authorities, including initiatives related to water supply, sanitation, waste management, postal services, child marriage prevention and agricultural education.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am at the Cabinet Room of the Secretariat.
