Three scientists from the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) have been awarded Ekushey Padak, the second highest civilian award in Bangladesh.
The three scientists were awarded in recognition for their contributions to innovations in the development of high-yielding rice varieties.
On Thursday (February 3), the list of 24 Ekushey Padak winners was announced in a notice from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
The following are this year's awardees in their respective fields.
BRRI: Dr Md Enamul Huq, Dr Shahanaj Sultana and Dr Jannatul Ferdous.
Language Movement: Mustafa MA Momin (posthumous), Mirza Tofazzol Hossain Mukul (posthumous).
Arts: Zinat Barkatullah, Nazrul Islam Babu (posthumous), Iqbal Ahmed, Mahmudur Rahman Benu, Khaled Mahmud Khan (posthumous), Afzal Hossain and Masum Aziz.
Liberation War: Md Motiur Rahman, Syed Moazzem Ali (posthumous), QABM Rahman, Amzad Ali Khandaker.
Jounralism: MA Malek.
Science and Technology: Md Anwar Hossain.
Education: Prof Gautam Buddha Das
Social Work: SM Abraham Lincoln and Sangharaj Gyanasree Mahather
Language and Literature: Kamal Chowdhury, Jharna Das Purkayastha
Reseach: Dr Md Abdus Sattar Mandal
