National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Dr. Ali Riaz today expressed hope that the representatives of political parties, who will be elected by the people in the upcoming parliamentary elections, will play a pioneering role in shaping the future journey of a democratic Bangladesh.
“We firmly believe that the political parties of Bangladesh, and those who will be elected by the people’s votes, will play their role in beginning the journey of a democratic Bangladesh. They will remain unwavering in fulfilling this responsibility, succeed in their efforts, and lead Bangladesh toward a new path,” he said.
He made the remarks while addressing a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy here.
Commission members Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, and Dr. Md. Ayub Mia; Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam; and the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haider, among others, were present at the event.
Professor Ali Riaz said, “With that in mind, we have made two proposals and presented two options. After providing the details of our proposal to the government this morning, we requested them to initiate the implementation process as quickly as possible. We hope they will do so.”
The vice-chairman of the commission said, “The ‘July National Charter, 2025’ was signed on October 17, and the political parties have made a clear and unambiguous commitment to implement it. In this context, we have made recommendations on how the government can implement the provisions included in the July National Charter.”
Professor Ali Riaz said, “Our recommendations mainly have three parts. The first is that the government should immediately implement all issues that are not related to constitutional matters, which can be implemented through ordinances. The second is that there are many recommendations that can be implemented through government directives or even office orders, so the government should implement them quickly. There is no disagreement among the political parties participating in the commission, and consensus has been reached on these two issues. Whenever such consensus has been established through discussions, we have informed the government about it.”
In addition, he said, “In discussions with political parties, we have observed that there is consensus on many constitutional issues, while there are differences of opinion on some others. To provide a legal basis for implementing these constitutional matters and to guide the process, we have made several recommendations in the third part of our proposal on how to move forward with their implementation.”
It is mentionable that the commission handed over the recommendations for the implementation of the ‘July National Charter, 2025’ to Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna this noon.
