Benapole trade suspended for Dol Purnima

Import and export activities between Bangladesh and India through Benapole Land Port remained suspended on Tuesday due to the Dol Purnima public holiday in India.

Officials said cross-border trade operations were halted for the day as Indian customs and port services observed the holiday. However, passport passenger movement between the two countries continued as usual.

Benapole Port Director Shamim Hossain said that although import-export activities were closed, operations at the port and customs house in Bangladesh were functioning normally.

Trade through the port is expected to resume from Wednesday morning, he added.

Revenue Officer of Benapole Custom House Monibur Rahman said the suspension results in an estimated revenue loss of around Tk 180 million for a single day.
