On Saturday (August 21) afternoon, Bangladesh received approximately 7 lakh 81 thousand doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine from Japan under COVAX – the global vaccine sharing scheme.
The Cathy Pacific flight carrying 7 lakh 81 thousand 440 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine landed at Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital.
The consignment arrived at around 3:24 PM.
The matter was confirmed to the media by Group Captain AHM Touhid-Ul Ahsan, executive director of HSIA.
Japan has committed to provide 30 lakh doses of AstraZeneca vaccines to Bangladesh under the COVAX scheme.
So far, Japan has sent 16 lakh 43 thousand 300 doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
The first consignment of 6 lakh 16 thousand 780 doses arrived in Bangladesh on August 3.
Earlier, on July 31, 7 lakh 81 thousand 320 doses of the Oxford vaccine arrived in town.
Before than on July 24, Bangladesh received 2 lakh 45 thousand 200 doses of the same vaccine from Japan, which was the first consignment sent from Japan under the COVAX scheme.
