The Ministry of Religious Affairs has recently announced an initiative to provide interest-free microloans to Imams and Muezzins across the country.

The financial assistance will be managed through the "Imam-Muezzin Welfare Trust" and aims to support those who have completed their training at the Islamic Foundation’s Imam Training Academy.

This decision was made in order to uplift Imams and Muezzins, particularly those struggling financially.

In addition to the interest-free loans, the trust will also provide direct financial support to Imams and Muezzins who are in financial distress.

These efforts are designed to help those in need within religious institutions and their families.

As of the 2024-25 fiscal year, a total of 1.8 crore taka has already been distributed to 600 Imams and Muezzins as interest-free loans.

Furthermore, financial aid amounting to 2.31 crore taka is being handed out to 4,620 beneficiaries, including 295 individuals in the Dhaka district who received 14.75 lakh taka in assistance.

Distribution for the remaining amount is currently underway, with the total financial support reaching 4.11 crore taka from the Imam-Muezzin Welfare Trust.

The welfare trust was originally established in 2001, with the goal of providing financial help to Imams and Muezzins who face critical accidents, disability, or life-threatening illnesses.

The fund also assists the families of deceased Imams and Muezzins, offering educational support to their children and ensuring the overall welfare of their families.

This initiative marks a significant step toward addressing the economic challenges faced by religious leaders, with the government striving to support those who play such vital roles in the community.
