Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has dismissed reports claiming that a rickshaw puller detained from Dhanmondi 32 on August 15 was made an accused in a murder case, calling the information “baseless and misleading.”
In a press release issued on Saturday, DMP clarified that on August 15, 2025, one Md. Azizur Rahman (27) was detained from the Dhanmondi 32 area. The following day, on August 16, he was produced before a court as a suspect in a case filed at Dhanmondi Police Station back in April.
The statement noted that certain social media platforms and news outlets have circulated misleading information regarding Azizur Rahman’s detention and legal proceedings, which has come to the attention of DMP.
According to the release, Azizur Rahman was produced before court as a suspect in a regular case under the Penal Code, not in connection with any murder case. “However, some are falsely portraying it as a murder case, which is entirely untrue and intentional,” the DMP stressed.
The police authority has urged all concerned to refrain from spreading confusion and misinformation regarding the matter.
