The current government has no accountability and is increasing the prices of everything it needs to make its pockets heavier, alleged BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Alongside, Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammed Quader thinks the fuel price hike is illogical.
They made the remarks at a separate meeting on Thursday (November 4th).
The BNP leader also expressed solidarity with the abstention program of truck transport workers protesting the rise of fuel oil price.
On his way to Dhaka from his residence in Thakurgaon around 4pm on Thursday, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters, "This government is not elected. There is no accountability anywhere. So the price of oil is going up to make their pockets heavier and to increase business.
Protesting against the rise in prices of essential commodities, the BNP secretary general said, "On the one hand, the people of the country are struggling due to the rise in prices of essential commodities. There will be a huge pressure on the overall economy of the country. At the same time, the purchasing power of people will be reduced. That will have an impact on the economy of Bangladesh.”
"What value can the people have in a government that does not hold its accountability to the people, responsibility in the parliament, and acts whimsically?” he asked.
"We know who imports LP gas and who imports fuel," he said. All in all, a situation has arisen where the life of the commoners has become miserable. This government is behaving repressively, he said.
Criticizing the increase in prices of TCB products, Mirza Fakhrul said, “TCB products are for the public. Ordinary people are being tortured by increasing its price. Increasing the price of electricity every year has almost ended the common scenario. We support the truck workers' program.”
Raising oil prices is unreasonable: GM Quader
Meanwhile, Jatiya Party chairman and deputy leader of the opposition GM Quader has criticized the government for unreasonably raising oil prices. He said this at a meeting held at Banani in the capital on Thursday.
Calling on the government to run the country with a service spirit, not a business one, GM Quader said, "If the price of oil goes up, the cost of living will go up." If the price of oil rises, the cost of production and transportation of goods will increase. Thus, people's lives will become unbearable due to the rise in commodity prices. The rise in oil prices will make people's lives more difficult.”
