The government has begun taking steps to block all online platforms of the Bangladesh Awami League and its affiliated, associate, and like-minded organizations.

These include the party’s websites and social media accounts across platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Telegram, and X (formerly Twitter).

On Tuesday, the National Cyber Security Agency sent a letter to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), requesting action to block these platforms.

The move was confirmed to the media by Fayez Ahmed Tayyab, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology.

This follows a gazette issued on Monday by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, which bans all activities of the Awami League and its associated bodies until ongoing proceedings at the International Crimes Tribunal are concluded.

According to the gazette, any form of publication, media appearance, online or social media promotion, rallies, meetings, or conferences by these groups is now prohibited.

The action was taken under the amended Anti-Terrorism Ordinance.

On the same day, the Election Commission also suspended the Awami League’s registration as a political party.
