The High Court (HC) on Sunday stayed the order on penalizing Sohoz.com with Tk 2 lakh fine following an allegation filed by Dhaka University student Mohiuddin Roni over mismanagement in the train ticket sales.
Besides, the court also issued a rule asking why the punishment awarded by the Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection would not be declared unlawful.
A high court bench of justice Md. Khasruzzaman and justice Md. Iqbal Kabir passed the order and issued the rule on Sunday while conducting a hearing on a writ petition filed on behalf of Sohoz.com.
On July 20, the National Consumers' Right Protection fined Sohoz Tk 2 lakh. Later, the ticket booking operator lodged a writ petition challenging the punishment.
Lawyer Tanzib ul Alam accompanied by Kazi Ershadul Alam took part in the hearing in favour of the writ while deputy attorney general Bipul Bagmar was presented on the state’s side.
Commerce secretary, Directorate General of the consumers' right protection, five plaintiffs including Mohiuddin Roni were asked to respond to the rule within two weeks.
