Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is set to represent the Dubai Capitals in the upcoming Global Super League (GSL), scheduled to begin on July 10 in Guyana. He has been brought in as a replacement for South African spinner Keshav Maharaj.
Shakib’s participation will see him line up against Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) side Rangpur Riders, who had initially expressed interest in signing the veteran cricketer for the tournament. However, the franchise ultimately chose not to include him, citing the “current situation” in the country.
"Shakib is still among the most valuable players globally. It’s not that we didn’t want him, but given the situation in the country, we had to reconsider," said Rangpur Riders’ team director Shanian Tanim at a recent event.
Rangpur Riders, the defending champions, will kick off their GSL campaign against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on July 11. The much-anticipated clash between Rangpur and Dubai, featuring Shakib, is scheduled for July 16.
