Roads in different parts of the capital have been submerged due to torrential rains. Those who have taken to the streets for livelihood and other unavoidable needs have suffered a lot.
Traffic has come to a standstill in some areas as the roads are waterlogged. Due to the waterlogging, the city dwellers have suffered a lot.
It rained 130 millimeters in six hours in Dhaka from 6 am to 12 noon today.
According to the Meteorological Department, this is the highest rainfall in a single day in Dhaka under normal conditions of the current season. During Cyclone Remal, the capital received the highest rainfall of 224 mm. It was the rain caused by the impact of a cyclone.
Fakirerpool, Nayapaltan, Baitul Mukarram, Topkhana Road, Matsya Bhaban, Karwan Bazar, Shantinagar, Malibagh intersection, Arambagh, Pragati Sarani, New Market, Rapa Plaza in Dhanmondi, Rokeya Sarani in Mirpur, Doyaganj intersection in Old Dhaka, Bangshal and Toynbee Circular Road in Nimtoli have been inundated.
Meteorologist Tariful Newaz Kabir said, according to the rules, rain is measured every three hours. In all, 130 mm of rain fell in 6 hours.
He added, The rain is not likely to stop completely today. Moderate to heavy rains will continue to fall in the capital.
According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, it is raining almost all over the country including the capital. Monsoon activity will continue for at least three to five more days.
In the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall was 309 mm in Cox`s Bazar. Besides, Sandwip received 219 millimeters of rain, Sitakunda 102 millimeters. Hyperactivity will decrease from Saturday, according to Meteorological Department’s information.
