Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has issued a strong warning that any negligence by police or Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in enforcing the law will be met with strict legal actions.

His remarks came during a solemn ceremony at the Banani Military Graveyard, where he, along with other high-ranking officials, paid tribute to the military officers and soldiers who were martyred in the Pilkhana tragedy.

After laying a wreath at the graves, the Home Affairs Adviser addressed reporters, providing crucial insights into the current law enforcement situation.

“If any member of the police or BGB is found negligent in carrying out their duties in enforcing the law, they will face strict legal measures,” he emphasized, when questioned about recent concerns over law and order.

Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury also touched upon the ongoing demands of the martyrs‍‍` families.

According to him, the families had two primary demands. The first one—declaring a Martyrs‍‍` Day to honor the fallen military personnel—has already been fulfilled.

The second demand, which calls for justice for the perpetrators of the Pilkhana tragedy, is still in progress.

The Adviser revealed that a commission has been formed to investigate the issue thoroughly, and “within three months, based on the commission’s report, justice will be served.”

The Martyrs‍‍` Day observance saw the presence of several dignitaries, including the chiefs of the three armed forces, the Military Secretary to the President, the BGB Chief, and members of the martyrs‍‍` families.

As concerns over law enforcement intensify, these remarks from the Home Affairs Adviser reaffirm the government‍‍`s strong stance on ensuring accountability and addressing the demands of the bereaved families.
