In response to recent concerns about rising incidents of public vigilantism, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture, has made a firm appeal to the public.

He urged citizens to avoid taking the law into their own hands, assuring that the government is working to strengthen law enforcement efforts across the country.

During an event held on Wednesday morning at the Horticulture Center in Rajalakha, Savar, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury addressed journalists after inaugurating the new ‍‍`Farmer‍‍`s Mini Cold Storage and Farmer App.‍‍`

He expressed concern about a recent incident in Uttara, Dhaka, where two individuals were tied up and hung on suspicion of being muggers.

This act of public justice has raised serious concerns about law and order in the capital.

"I would like to tell the people of the country, do not take the law into your own hands. And I would like to tell the police to be more active, so that such incidents do not occur," said the Home Affairs advisor, acknowledging that these acts of public punishment are dangerous and should not be encouraged.

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury also emphasized that the government is actively working to improve the country’s law enforcement capacity, stating that efforts are underway to increase the number of police officers.

"Efforts are being made to increase the number of police officers to maintain control over the law and order situation. At the same time, the number of personnel in other forces will also be increased," he said. This announcement comes in light of growing concerns about maintaining law and order amidst rising crime and vigilantism.

The inauguration of the Farmer‍‍`s Mini Cold Storage and Farmer App also saw participation from officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, along with farmers from different regions of the country.

This initiative aims to provide storage solutions for farmers and make modern farming more accessible.

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury’s remarks highlight the balance needed between effective policing and responsible public behavior, urging both law enforcement agencies and the public to work together to prevent incidents of crime without resorting to dangerous acts of vigilantism.

This latest appeal comes at a critical time as the government seeks to reassure the public of their safety while calling for calm and lawful responses to incidents of crime across the nation.
