Home Ministry compensates torture victim domestic help Khadija

The Home Ministry has compensated a victim of physical torture nine years after the incident was reported at Mirpur in the capital.

Torture on domestic help Khadija sparked outcry across the country in 2013. Multiple scars were found on her body. She was scorched with electric iron, Dhaka Medical College doctors said.

Minor Khadija alleged that she was often beaten. However, police in their report said, none beat Khaidja.

Later, a Children Charity Foundation Bangladesh (CCB) filed an application with NHRC seeking proper steps over the incident.

The commission found police violating human rights by rejecting Khadija to take her case and sent a letter to the home ministry to investigate the case.

In 2018, CCB filed a writ petition.

The high court in its judgment said, the human rights commission failed to protect human rights.

HC also asked to hold a hearing over the torment within 60 days.

The NHRC conducted the hearing in presence of victim Khadija and officials of the police home ministry. The commission asked the home ministry to compensate the house help with taka 50 thousand.
