I don’t deserve such social media trial and bashing: Sarwar Tushar

Sarwar Tushar, Joint Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has strongly protested against the ongoing social media backlash following the leak of his private conversations.

Tushar claimed he has committed no crime and described the incident as a politically motivated smear campaign intended to tarnish his image.

In a statement on his verified social media page on Tuesday, Tushar acknowledged that, like any human being, he is not beyond making mistakes and remains open to constructive criticism.

However, he emphasized that no one deserves the kind of social media trial and public bashing he is currently facing.

“I am not free from faults. I am still in the process of developing myself. If I make mistakes, I am willing to correct them. But I have not committed any crime. I do not deserve this kind of social media trial and bashing. No one does. This smear campaign is politically motivated,” Tushar said.

He condemned the way his female colleagues have been targeted alongside him, stating that combining their photos with his and spreading offensive content and fabricated videos is deeply shameful and painful.

Tushar urged his political opponents to maintain civility and not resort to personal attacks or character assassination.

Tushar further alleged that certain social media users have deliberately spread false and defamatory content by linking him with female colleagues at both the central and metropolitan levels of the party.

He emphasized that these women are respectable and have personal lives beyond politics, which should not be harmed in the pursuit of political rivalry.

“The unauthorized release of a private conversation between two individuals is a despicable act,” Tushar said. “Taking a conversation from three months ago, cutting parts out of context, and publishing it online to humiliate me is not something to be proud of.”

Describing the social media trial as a "horrific" experience, Tushar said, “Social media trials are not interested in the truth; they begin with predetermined judgments. I apologize to my well-wishers, friends, and allies if my temporary lapses have caused them discomfort. I am fully aware of the extent of my involvement and how much of this is a result of an organized virtual mob.”

He also claimed that fake screenshots and fabricated conversations have been circulated in his name, stating, “Those conversations are not mine. Considering the overall situation, the party has sought an explanation from me, and I will respond in writing.”

Tushar pledged to strive for greater personal refinement in the future and called on political rivals to refrain from turning opposition into personal attacks or character assassination.

“To those who oppose or criticize me, I request you to keep political rivalry within respectful boundaries. Let the spirit of Bangladesh prevail,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the National Citizen Party has issued a show-cause notice to Sarwar Tushar, accusing him of moral misconduct.

He has been asked to submit a written explanation within five days and has been temporarily suspended from organizational activities pending the outcome of the investigation.
