The Bangladeshi government has appointed five additional prosecutors to the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), bringing the total number to nine. The appointments were announced by the solicitor wing of the Law and Justice Division via a gazette notification on October 24, and they take effect immediately.
The new appointees are SM Moinul Karim, Md Nure Ershad Siddiqui, Shaikh Mahdi, Tarek Abdullah, and Tanvir Hasan Joha. Among them, SM Moinul Karim and Md Nure Ershad Siddiqui have been granted the rank of Deputy Attorney General, while Shaikh Mahdi and Tarek Abdullah will serve as Assistant Attorney Generals. Tanvir Hasan Joha, a specialist in digital forensics, joins without a specific legal rank.
This expansion follows the appointment of four prosecutors on September 7, when Supreme Court Advocate Muhammad Tajul Islam was named Chief Prosecutor. He was joined by prosecutors Gazi Monawar Hossain Tamim, BM Sultan Mahmud, and Abdullah Al Noman.
