Jahanara Imam was a Bangladeshi political activist and writer. She is renowned for her efforts to bring charges against people who were accused of war crimes during the Bangladesh Liberation War. She has been called "Shaheed Janani" (Mother of Martyrs).
Jahanara Imam was born on May 3, 1929, into a landowning family in the village of Sundarpur in the Murshidabad district. She served as the coordinator of the Ghatak-Dalal Nirmul Committee (1992).
Jahanara published as many as 26 works, including the highly regarded Ekatturer Dinguli, as well as a number of articles about the War of Independence and war crimes trials.
On June 26, 1994, in the United States, Jahanara, the mother of the martyred freedom warrior Rumi, passed away at the age of 65 fighting with cancer.
