Joint forces of the army and police have uncovered an illegal arms manufacturing factory in Faridpur’s Madhukhali upazila and arrested one person.

The raid was carried out on Friday night at Dumain village.

The arrested man was identified as 52-year-old Badal Sarkar, son of Nitai Sarkar, a resident of the same village.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Madhukhali Army Camp, along with local police, conducted the operation at Badal’s house, where the illegal factory was being run.

During the drive, the joint forces recovered a single-barrel pipe gun, 12 rounds of ammunition, 14 recoil springs, two hammers, a drill machine and other tools used to make firearms.

Officer-in-Charge of Madhukhali Police Station, Fakir Taijur Rahman, said a case has been filed against Badal Sarkar under the Arms Act.

Army sources said Badal had been making illegal weapons at his own workshop for a long time and supplying them to criminals in different areas of Faridpur.

They also said the demand for such weapons has increased recently ahead of the national election.

Badal Sarkar, who was wanted in several criminal cases, was later handed over to Madhukhali Police for further legal action.
