The Bangladesh Biman Corporation (Repeal) Bill, 2023 today was passed in Parliament with a view to bringing amendment and reinstate Bangladesh Biman Order-1972 enacted by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali moved the bill which was unanimously passed by voice votes in the House with Deputy Speaker Shamsul Huq Tuku in the chair.
Placing the bill, the state minister said the proposed law will replace "Bangladesh Biman Corporation Ordinance, 1977".
The existing Bangladesh Biman Corporation Ordinance 1977 is no longer needed as it is a public limited company, he said.
The draft of the new `Bangladesh Biman Corporation (Repeal) Act-2023` has been approved in principle, he told the parliament.
Opposing the draft law and demanding for seeking public review, the opposition lawmakers said the law has lot of anomalies and it would be challenged in the court in future.
Rejecting the public review claimed by the opposition lawmakers, the state minister said the law will help to develop expertise in operation of the national carrier and then the demand was null and void by the voice votes of the treasury bench lawmakers.
