Legal notice served on govt to stop Hilsa exporting to India

A Supreme Court lawyer has served a legal notice on the government, asking it to stop exporting Hilsa fish to India in seven days.

Md Mahmudul Hasan, in the notice, said that the commerce ministry has given permission to export Hilsa without considering its demand among the people of Bangladesh.

The price of Hilsa has been increased in the markets of Bangladesh due to export. As a result, many people in Bangladesh cannot afford to buy Hilsa due to its high cost, it added.

Mahmudul Hasan further said Hilsa fish is not exportable product under the Export Policy 2021-2024.

But the commerce ministry has approved the export of Hilsa to India ignoring the interest of the people of Bangladesh and in violation of law, he added.

Mahmudul Hasan said he will take appropriate legal action if the government does not stop the export of Hilsa to India in seven days.
