Ahead of the upcoming national election, Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Officers-in-Charge (OCs) will be transferred and posted through a public lottery system, announced Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

He made the announcement on Wednesday while speaking to reporters after a directive meeting of the law and order coordination committee on election preparedness.

“I have the authority to transfer and post SPs and OCs,” said the adviser. “Before the election, this will be done through a lottery in the presence of all concerned. Even the president and general secretary of the Secretariat Reporters’ Forum will be invited to observe the lottery to ensure transparency.”

He also said that nearly 800,000 law enforcement personnel will be deployed for election duty across the country. "They will undergo training in their respective areas to ensure their readiness. Everything necessary will be done to ensure a free, fair, and impartial election,” he added.

Referring to the Chief Adviser’s recent address to the nation, Jahangir said, “The meeting was convened today as a continuation of the Chief Adviser’s directives. We are progressing with preparations in accordance with that roadmap.”

He further mentioned that logistical support requirements ahead of the election were a key topic of discussion at the meeting.
