The low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Sri Lanka coast intensified into a well-marked low at 6:00 am on Wednesday, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
The Met office said the system is likely to move in a north-northwesterly direction and may strengthen further.
Meanwhile, a deep depression over the Strait of Malacca and its adjoining area first intensified into a deep depression and then developed into a cyclonic storm named ‘Senyar’, centered near latitude 5.0°N and longitude 98.0°E at 6:00 am on Wednesday.
The cyclone is expected to move westwards.
Authorities have advised that all fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay avoid venturing into the deep sea until further notice.
