Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman stated that no one gave their lives during the July Revolution to establish the Women’s Reform Commission.
Speaking at a rally organized by Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Saturday, he said, “Hefazat has rightfully raised questions about feminism. I would like to ask Dr. Yunus Sarkar—why are you creating unnecessary controversies? No one laid down their life in the July movement to form such a commission. People sacrificed their lives to uproot fascism and free Bangladesh from Indian dominance. That should be your priority as part of the government.”
He further said, “Your duty is to implement reforms that prevent fascism from taking hold in the country again.”
Addressing the interim government, Mahmudur Rahman urged, “As a senior citizen, I request you not to waste time and resources on needless issues. We`ve seen several unnecessary commissions being formed—this must stop. Cancel them all; they serve no real purpose.”
Their four-point demand includes:
1. Canceling the Women’s Reform Commission and its report.
2. Removing the proposal of the majority in the constitution and restoring full faith and trust in Allah.
3. Withdrawing all cases filed against Hefazat leaders and activists.
4. Taking action against all genocides, including the Shapla Chattar incident, and supporting the government`s role in stopping the oppression of Muslims in Palestine and India.
