Fire Service and Civil Defence Director (Operation and Maintenance), Lt Col Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury said that Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover was partially damaged in a fire that broke out in the South City Corporation (DSCC) sweeper colony near Kaptan Bazar and Jaykali Mandir area in Dhaka early Monday.
He said this in a briefing on Monday (March, 27) at five o'clock in the morning. He said that the amount of damage will be checked.
Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury said, "There were 42 houses of sweepers in two sheds in that part. Among these, 20 houses were burnt. Those currently living here will be relocated to prevent such incidents."
He also said added, "The tin shed market caught fire. There were a lot of old combustibles. Apart from this, gas cylinders were used for cooking. We first tried to prevent the fire from spreading. The origin of the fire is not yet found. However, I believe that the fire started from a kitchen in the colony. Apart from this, the amount of damage is still not known."
Confirming the incident's authenticity, Rakib, the duty officer of the fire service control room, said that a fire broke out in a tin shed house in the sweeper colony near the Jayakali temple in Kaptan bazar of the capital.
