In a move to make Metro Rail travel more affordable, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has decided to remove the Value Added Tax (VAT) on Metro Rail services.

This was revealed today in a special notice issued by Barrister Md. Badruzzaman Munshi, Second Secretary of the VAT department at NBR.

The notice highlights that Metro Rail is Bangladesh‍‍`s most modern and popular public transport, which not only helps reduce traffic jams but also saves a lot of work hours.

To make this efficient mode of transportation more popular, it‍‍`s important to reduce travel costs for commuters.

The special directive stated that under Section 126, Sub-section (3) of the VAT and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012, the NBR is granting a VAT exemption on Metro Rail services.

This decision was made due to Metro Rail being a fast, safe, time-saving, environmentally friendly, and high-tech transportation system.

The VAT exemption takes effect immediately and will remain in place until December 31 of this year, making Metro Rail travel more affordable for everyone during this period.
