BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has criticized the government for increasing VAT and duties on 100 essential products during the ongoing economic crisis.

He believes this decision will worsen the situation for ordinary citizens, especially those from lower and middle-income groups.

Speaking at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson‍‍`s office in Gulshan on Saturday morning (January 18), Fakhrul said,

"We are noticing that the present interim government, despite the prevailing economic instability and high inflation, has imposed VAT and supplementary duties on over 100 products. This decision will negatively affect the economic conditions of ordinary people, particularly the poor and middle-class populations, adding to their financial pressure."

He urged the government to immediately reverse these "unreasonable" indirect taxes, which he claimed would only worsen the economic hardships faced by the public.

Prominent BNP leaders, including Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Chairperson‍‍`s Advisory Council member Ismail Zabihullah, were also present at the press briefing, where they shared their concerns about the increasing economic pressure on the people.
