NBR reform alliance demands Chief Adviser’s interference

The NBR Reform Unity Council has called on the Chief Adviser of the interim government to intervene immediately to resolve the ongoing deadlock at the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

At a press conference held Thursday afternoon, the alliance issued an ultimatum demanding the removal of NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan by June 27.

Failing that, the alliance announced it would launch a countrywide indefinite "shutdown" program starting June 28, effectively halting operations in all customs and tax offices across the country.

Additionally, a “March to NBR” protest has been scheduled for June 28, drawing participants from across Bangladesh.

Speaking at the press conference, Hassan Muhammad Tarek Rikabdaar, president of the alliance, said, “At this point, there is no option left for reform without removing the NBR chairman.”

As tensions escalated, law enforcement personnel were seen sealing all entry and exit points of the NBR headquarters by 4:45 PM.

No one was being allowed in or out of the building, further highlighting the intensity of the standoff.

The conflict underscores growing dissatisfaction within the NBR over internal reforms and leadership.

The reform alliance has accused the chairman of obstructing necessary changes and contributing to administrative stagnation.
