A new exit ramp has been unveiled on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway at FDC Gate adjacent to Karwan Bazar. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the ramp on Wednesday, stating that it serves as an Eid gift from the Prime Minister to the city dwellers.
Authorities have announced that the new section of the expressway will be accessible for general traffic starting Wednesday afternoon.
The FDC gate ramp marks the 16th entry point of the elevated expressway. To date, 15 ramps have been opened from Kawla, adjacent to the airport, to Farmgate. With a total of 31 connecting roads planned, the entire expressway`s length is expected to reach 46.73 km, spanning from Kawla to Qutubkhali in Jatrabari.
Currently, the traffic department has noted increased congestion at Farmgate and Indira Road due to vehicles exiting the expressway. Following the opening of the Karwan Bazar ramp, Motijheel and southbound vehicles are anticipated to utilize this new exit point. This shift is expected to alleviate some pressure from Farmgate and Indira Road, redirecting it to Karwan Bazar and its surrounding roads.
The mega project, inaugurated on September 2 last year, saw the opening of the 11.5 km stretch of expressway from Kawla to Farmgate on September 3, featuring 15 ramps within this segment.
