On Sunday morning, seven newly appointed members of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) officially took their oaths of office.

The ceremony, which was held at the Supreme Court’s Judges’ Lounge, was led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed.

These new members will serve in their roles for five years from the date they begin their duties, or until they reach 65 years of age, in accordance with Article 139 of the Constitution.

The new appointments were made last Tuesday, bringing the total number of members in the PSC to 15.

The seven newly sworn-in members include: Professor Ferdous Arfina Osman from Dhaka University, retired Foreign Service officer Shabbir Ahmed Chowdhury, retired Additional Inspector General of Police Md. Munir Hossain, Professor Shahnaz Sarkar from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Professor A.T.M. Farid Uddin from the BCS Health Cadre, Professor Md. Sharif Hossain from Dhaka University, and retired Brigadier General Md. Anwarul Islam.

The PSC saw a change in leadership after the fall of the Awami League government on October 8, triggered by a student-led uprising. Following this, the then-chairman Md. Sohrab Hossain, along with other members, resigned from their positions.

The very next day, Professor Mobasser Monem, from the Department of Public Administration at Dhaka University, was appointed as the new chairman of the PSC.
