The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed an indefinite ban on all types of meetings, gatherings, processions, and public events in and around the Bangladesh Secretariat and the residence of the Chief Advisor.
The ban, effective from Thursday, March 13, was announced through a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali.
The notice clarifies that the restrictions will remain in place until further notice.
The ban covers not only the Secretariat and the Chief Advisor’s residence but also stretches to surrounding areas, including Hotel Intercontinental intersection, Shahbagh intersection, Kakrail intersection, and Mintu Road.
This prohibition includes all forms of public gatherings, marches, processions, and celebrations, in an effort to maintain public order in the area.
This decision follows the powers granted to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76), ensuring the authorities can manage and control large gatherings that may disrupt public peace.
The public has been informed that these measures will be enforced from Thursday, and the authorities have urged everyone to comply until the directive is lifted or amended.
This restriction comes at a time when authorities are taking steps to ensure greater control over public spaces, ensuring peace and security in key government zones.
