Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed has stated that there will be no meeting today, Sunday, with the protesting officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Finance, he remarked that if the officials want to continue their shutdown program, they are free to do so.
According to the adviser, the issue of the NBR officers’ protest was discussed during today’s meeting of the Advisory Council.
A press statement regarding the matter will be issued later. Sources from the Ministry of Finance confirmed that the council has decided not to hold any meeting with the NBR protestors today. A decision on whether the scheduled July 1 meeting will go ahead is yet to be made.
Meanwhile, around 2:00 PM, sources within the NBR indicated that a meeting was still planned for 4:00 PM at the finance adviser’s office with representatives of the protesting officials.
A 20-member delegation—comprising officials from income tax, customs, and VAT cadres—was reportedly finalized, with leadership from Hasan Muhammad Tarek Rikabdar, President of the NBR Reform Unity Council.
NBR officials and employees have been carrying out a complete shutdown program for several days under the banner of the NBR Reform Unity Council.
The ongoing protest aims to push for fair and justified reforms in the revenue sector, incorporating the opinions of all stakeholders.
