'None taken back in 6 years, won't take anyone again'

The government of Myanmar did not take back even a single one among the millions of Rohingya refugees who fled to Bangladesh facing the violence launched by their army.

Bangladeshi Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen said this making it clear that not even one new Rohingya refugee would be taken.

He came up with this remark on Thursday (January 26) after attending the Deputy Commissioner (DC) conference held at capital’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium.

“Conflict is still going on in the territory of Rohingyas, houses are being burnt, and the Rohingyas are trying to flee in fear. Myanmar’s junta-backed government has lack of sincerity, but we will continue our efforts to send the Rohingyas back,” foreign boss added.

The fourth edition of three-day long annual DC Conference, a conference of all administrative heads of the districts, inaugurated by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday (January 24).

Around one million of Rohingya, a Muslim ethnic minority group based in Rakhine State of Myanmar, fled to Bangladesh starting from August 2017 facing persecution by Myanmar army in their ancestral land fueling a historic migration crisis. The new commers joined around 300,000 people already in Bangladesh from previous waves of displacement.
