Actress Nusrat Faria, who was arrested in an attempted murder case, has been granted bail by a Dhaka court.
The order was issued on Tuesday morning by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka.
Her lawyer, Mohammad Iftekhar Hossain, confirmed the development to media. The court had ordered her to be sent to jail on Monday.
According to Iftekhar Hossain, Nusrat Faria submitted a bail petition in court on Tuesday morning. After hearing the arguments, the court approved her bail.
During the hearing, the defense lawyers told the court that Nusrat was not in the country at the time the incident occurred, as mentioned in the case. They also submitted supporting documents to prove this claim. The court accepted the documents and granted her bail.
On Sunday morning, police arrested Nusrat Faria from the immigration checkpoint at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while she was attempting to travel to Thailand. She was then taken to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) office for questioning.
According to the case documents, on July 19, during a mass student-led uprising in Dhaka’s Bhatara area, a man named Enamul Haque (35) was shot. On May 3, he filed a complaint with the CMM court in Dhaka, naming 283 individuals. Among them, 17 actors and actresses, including Nusrat Faria, were listed as accused.
Following a court order, the complaint was recorded as a formal case (FIR) on May 3. Two weeks later, Nusrat Faria was arrested.
