The court has approved a request from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to officially arrest former State Minister for ICT, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and Safi Muddassir Khan Jyoti, son of ex-Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, in a high-profile corruption case.

On Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain (Galib) granted the ACC’s plea after they submitted a formal request.

Court inspector Amir Hossain confirmed this news to the media.

According to the petition filed by ACC Assistant Director Al Amin, who is leading the investigation, Palak is already in jail following his arrest in another case under Jatrabari Police Station.

However, he is also a named accused in this case filed by the ACC’s Integrated District Office, Dhaka-1.

The ACC argued that it was important to show him as arrested in this particular case as well.

In a separate plea, ACC Assistant Director Md. Abul Kalam Azad requested that Safi Muddassir Khan Jyoti also be shown as arrested.

The ACC claims that Jyoti, along with his father, ex-Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, amassed wealth worth BDT 19 crore 89 lakh 78 thousand 502, far beyond their known sources of income.

Furthermore, Jyoti allegedly opened a business in his name and carried out multiple suspicious financial transactions, amounting to BDT 84 crore 77 lakh 57 thousand 572, through his personal and business bank accounts.

The allegations and arrests have sparked significant public interest, as both Palak and Jyoti are high-profile figures in Bangladeshi politics and business.
