Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BITWA) has suspended movement of passengers and passenger transport aiming to curb coronavirus infection.
The decision has been enforced from 12pm Friday (July 9). As per the directives, only freight vehicles and ambulance are allowed to cross river.
Earlier, the government issued a gazette notification imposing a stricter nationwide lockdown since July 1.
Authorities asked all to abide by lockdown protocols this time.
Getting out of home without any emergency will be followed by a police arrest, they said.
Besides, military was deployed in a bid to compel people to maintain health guidelines.
Later on July 5, the restrictions were extended till July 14.
