Education Minister Doctor Dipu Moni said, no more public exam will be held before Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam from 2023. Besides, there will be no division of science, humanities and commerce up to grade 10, she said.
The minister was speaking to a press conference held at the secretariat in capital Dhaka on Monday (September 13) to uphold the framework of the new curriculum.
“Decision to scrap PEC and JSC examinations has been taken in principle. It will come into effect from 2023,” the education minister said.
Referring to the abolishment of science, humanities and commerce at the secondary level the minister said, all students must study the same subject as per the new syllabus. No annual examination will be held for students up to grade three. Only three public examinations will be held from now on.
As per the new system, students will sit for the examination after complementing 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. HSC results will be published cumulating the result of these three grades.
The framework, prepared by the Education Ministry, was approved by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during a meeting earlier on the day.
Dipu Moni said the name and grading system of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam may also change, and the exam itself will be held based only on the syllabus of Class 10, instead of Classes 9 and 10, from 2023 in line with the revised curriculum.
The education minister said this curriculum will be tested in a pilot program in 2022. “It will be implemented in phases in the primary and secondary level from 2023 and the implementation will be complete by 2025.”
