Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shah Muhibullah Babunagari at Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Ulum Babunagar Madrasah in Fatikchhari, Chattogram, on Sunday.
The meeting began at 4:12pm, Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said.
“He met Huzur and enquired about his health,” Rumon said.
Babunagari received the Prime Minister when he arrived at the madrasah. They later held a meeting in the guest reception room.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit, and MPs Sarwar Alamgir and Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury were also present.
A large number of students stood along both sides of the road to welcome the Prime Minister as he arrived at the madrasah. Tarique Rahman got out of his vehicle and walked towards the younger students, greeting them.
Babunagari, a veteran Islamic scholar, is the principal of the madrasah. After meeting him, the Prime Minister joined a discussion with Islamic scholars on the madrasah premises. The discussion was chaired by the Hefazat chief.
A special pavilion had been set up at the madrasah ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
Tarique Rahman reached Fatikchhari by helicopter from Banshkhali. The helicopter landed at the Paindong Pelagazi Dighi helipad, from where he travelled by road to the madrasah.
