Protests erupted once again at Shahbagh as police used batons and water cannons to break up a demonstration.
The protesters, candidates who had been selected for government primary school assistant teacher positions, were voicing their anger after the High Court canceled their appointments.
At around 2:30 PM, the police began using force to disperse the crowd.
The protesters claim that several of them were arrested during the crackdown, though the authorities have not confirmed this.
Despite the aggressive response, the protesters quickly regrouped in front of the National Museum, just a short distance from the intersection.
This protest marks the fourth straight day that demonstrators have gathered outside the National Museum.
At one point during the afternoon, they briefly blocked the Shahbagh intersection.
The protest, now in its eighth day, follows a series of similar rallies. For four days prior, they gathered at the National Press Club to demand justice for the cancellation of their recruitment.
The issue dates back to February 6 when the High Court canceled the appointments of 6,531 candidates who had passed the final round of selection for assistant teacher positions in Dhaka and Chittagong divisions.
In its ruling, the court directed the government to issue new results in line with the Appellate Division`s recent ruling on quotas.
Since then, the candidates have been protesting, demanding the reinstatement of their appointments.
