In the early hours of the Great Independence and National Day, President Md. Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus led the nation in paying tribute to the brave martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar.

At 5:50 a.m. on Wednesday, President Shahabuddin was the first to offer flowers at the memorial, followed shortly by Chief Adviser Yunus, who arrived at 6:00 a.m. to pay his respects to the fallen heroes.

The solemn ceremony saw both the President and Chief Adviser stand in silence after placing their floral tributes, offering a moment of reflection for the sacrifices made by the valiant freedom fighters.

Following their lead, the Adviser for Liberation War Affairs, accompanied by family members of the Bir Shresthas (the highest award recipients for military bravery), wounded freedom fighters, and other war veterans, laid wreaths in honor of the martyrs.

This marked a significant moment as the nation paid homage to those who gave their lives for the country’s independence.

Later, diplomats from foreign missions, along with representatives from various political and social organizations, joined in paying their respects.

Citizens from all walks of life also gathered at the National Memorial, offering floral tributes to the martyrs who fought for Bangladesh’s freedom.

As part of the formal tribute, a smartly dressed contingent of the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force presented a state salute to honor the occasion.

After the tribute, Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus signed the visitor‍‍`s book kept at the memorial, marking the momentous event.

This national observance serves as a reminder of the unity, courage, and resilience of the people of Bangladesh, as the country once again reflects on the sacrifices that secured its independence in 1971.
