President Md. Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed their deep sorrow over the tragic death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian, and other officials in a helicopter crash.
In separate messages on Monday, May 20, both leaders conveyed their condolences.
President Md. Shahabuddin expressed profound grief over the death of President Raisi, extending his heartfelt condolences to the citizens of Iran and the bereaved family members of the president.
In a separate condolence message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina described Raisi as a great leader, stating, “He dedicated his entire life to serving his country. The citizens of Iran have benefited from his work.”
She also extended deep condolences on behalf of Bangladesh for the deaths of the Iranian President and Foreign Minister.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday when President Raisi, along with several associates, was returning from a visit to Azerbaijan. After attending an event with Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev, the helicopter crashed on its return journey. Alongside President Raisi and Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian, several senior Iranian officials were also on board.
These officials included East Azerbaijan Province Governor Malek Rahmati, Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, the representative of Iran`s Supreme Leader in East Azerbaijan, and Mehdi Mousavi, the chief of the Presidential Guard. The pilot, co-pilot, and crew members of the helicopter also perished in the crash.
