Students of the University of Dhaka blockaded Shahbag intersection in capital Dhaka protesting the attack on Hindu temples and Puja venues across the country.
The protesters thronged the intersection since 10:30am Monday (October 18).
The university students of different dormitories including Jagannath Hall gathered at the TSC area of the university and later marched to Shahbag with a procession.
They chanted slogan pressing formulation of minority ministry.
In a rally, the demonstrators demanded exemplary punishment to the offenders who were involved in communal unrest.
“We strongly censure the attack, vandalism and casualties at parts of the country,” a student told TheReport.live.
The blockade left long traffic congregation in and around Shahbag and adjoining areas including Paltan, Science Lab, Bangla Motor and TSC-bound road.
Several socio-political organisations expressed deep concern condemning the attack and vandalism on Puja venues during the Autumnal Durga festival were underway centering alleged defamation of the holy Quran in a Cumilla temple.
Earlier on Sunday (October 17) they issued a statement pressing speedy trial of the offenders.
